Tribute to Celine Dions late husband René Angélil

Tribute to Celine Dions late husband René Angélil

We, at TributeActsManagement.com, would like to extend our condolences to Celine Dion and her family at this very sad time.

Celine met Angelil, a well-known music manger, when he invited her to audition in Quebec, at the age of 12, after having received a tape sent by one of her siblings. It is reported that Celine has said that he started to cry whilst she was singing and she knew that she had done a good job. It is further reported that in 1981 Angelil mortgaged his house to finance her album and took Celine and her mother on tour to Canada, Japan and Europe.

The story goes that Celine and Angélil went on their first official date in 1987, when she was 19 (though she admitted that they started seeing each other about a year before that). Their relationship was announced 5 years later through one of her songs. Although Angelil was concerned about the 26 year age gap, they were in love and Celine wanted the world to know.

They got engaged in 1991, even though their romance was still a secret to the world. Eventually, the couple married in a lavish wedding ceremony at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica on December 17, 1994, which was broadcast live on Canadian television.

Celine’s star kept rising, which was great news for the newly married couple and professional partners. (She received a World Music Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in May 1995.

Her version of “Beauty and the Beast” won an Oscar and Grammy in 1991, but in 1997, one of her biggest hits — “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic — won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

In 1998, the couple’s world was shaken when Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer.

1Angelil was declared cancer-free in 2000. The couple celebrated by renewing their wedding vows in a traditional Melkite Byzantine ceremony in Las Vegas.

Although he was diagnosed as cancer free in 2000, cancer returned in 2013.

1 Sadly, Angelil was not to recover from his cancer and he passed away on January 14, 2016. They were devoted to each other – a magic life, she was only 12 and he was 38 when they first met.

‘Team Celine’ stated that friends and relatives of Rene would be remembering him through stories and memories at the colosseum in Caesars Palace. Further sadness and tragedy occurred when Celine’s brother died on January 16, 2016. It is reported that Celine thanked fans for their support during this difficult time and that she and her family were deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people.

Again, we would like to extend our condolences to Celine and her family at this time and look forward to new songs and more big hits in the future. As a reminder, If you would like to send Celine a message, ‘Team Celine’ have said that you can do this through www.legacy.com/reneangelil.
