John Lennon’s Birthday
Yesterday marked what would have been Beatles star John Lennon’s 75th birthday. Earlier in the week, Thousands of people ‘gave peace a chance’ in New York coming together for a world record attempt to celebrate what would have been the icons birthday.
Yoko Ono led the 2,000-strong crowd in Central Park as they attempted to set the record for the largest group of human bodies forming a peace sign.
Unfortunately, despite an impressive showing, the attempt fell short of the record, which is set at over 5,000 people.
Ono released a statement, saying: “New York was a very special place for John – his adopted home – and I’m so happy that the John Lennon Bus is there to celebrate his 75th birthday.”
Tragically, the former Beatle-turned-political activist was gunned down in 1980 at the age of 40 outside New York’s Dakota apartments.
John has since remained a powerful and influential figure in the public eye and his 1971 single Imagine has become the defining song of his life.
A song which encourages listeners to consider peace and a world without borders, countries or possessions, it regularly returns to the charts each Christmas.
