The Ultimate Drifters
The “Ultimate Drifters” are a highly experienced, Drifters, Soul and Motown tribute group described as a celebration of the music rather than a tribute.
Formed in 1991, our act perform a repertoire of Drifters tracks and music from similar genres including, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Edwin Starr to name but a few. Complete with authentic vocal harmonies, each and every song allows us to show case our full vocal range and skills. The current set comprises material from over 50 years of Drifters and Motown performances.
Every one of their performances is a one-of-a-kind experience: a foot-stomping, hand-clapping celebration of Drifters  and Motown music itself; keeping its spirit alive and spreading the love of music to new generations. Led by the legendary lead vocalist Gillie Leroy Jones, a charismatic and highly gifted male lead vocalist, who has had the honour of performing and touring with members of the Original Drifters including Ben E King, Billy Lewis, Peter LaMarr and Tony Jackson.
Each of our acts shows takes the very best of the Drifters, Soul, Motown, Funk and Disco, and mixes them together with a dash of classical style. All of our performances are 100% live – that means no samples, no auto-tuning and no cheating… just the excitement of genuine live music.
Every show is supported by four vocalists singing specially-selected classic Drifters hits, Soul, Motown, Funk and Disco material, every performance is delivered with sincere authority, passion and verve.
“The Ultimate Drifters” have played high-level functions of all types across the UK and the world and have been honoured to perform on television, at awards ceremonies, military dinners, black tie balls, product launches, celebrity weddings, birthdays, Christmas parties, open-air festivals, nightclubs and holiday camps.
Testimonials
“In the past I’ve had real doubts about tribute bands it’s really a hit or miss industry and finding a good tribute is not easy. On hearing the first few minutes of the guys I remembered why I booked them. It’s the brilliant songs, they outshine the performers on stage and they will certainly outlive them. This only works because the group is good enough to do the songs justice. From the moment they opened with Up on The Roof they certainly did that. I’d rather see the guys on stage than sit at home and listen to Drifters albums. For me, that’s what a great tribute band is really about.” David McGarrigle, Central Arts Centre
